What does an Exercise Physiologist actually do?

An Exercise Physiologist uses exercise as treatment—but the real work is deciding what exercise, for whom, why, and how it can fit.

More than writing programs

Accredited Exercise Physiologists are university-qualified allied health professionals. They assess health, movement and function, then prescribe exercise for people living with injury, disability, chronic disease or complex health concerns.

The exercise itself might look familiar. The expertise sits in selection, dosage, progression, adaptation and understanding how different conditions affect what is safe and useful.

Who is it for?

Exercise Physiology becomes particularly helpful when ordinary fitness advice does not feel adequate: after injury, during cancer treatment, with neurological conditions, persistent pain, diabetes, heart or lung disease, osteoporosis, disability or a complicated return to activity.

You do not need to be fit, confident or comfortable in gyms before you arrive. Those can be outcomes of care—not entry requirements.

What Hex adds

At Hex we combine exercise science with behaviour change, curiosity and a whole-person view. We consider symptoms, confidence, routines, environment, motivation and the real tasks a person wants to do.

The aim is not simply to complete exercises in our clinic. It is to build capacity that shows up in life.
